Seamless Kubernetes Deployment to any cloud

About the Event

IDC predicts that from 2018 to 2023, 500 million new logical apps will be created, equal to the number built over the past 40 years. Customers now expect on demand applications, delightful interactions, access from anywhere, and a personalised experience. Creating value for your business therefore depends on your ability to develop and deliver high quality applications faster.

This session will show through presentations and hands-on labs, how to use some of the Red Hat open source stack to simplify the creation of cloud-native services and serverless functions. We will also cover the subject of Continuous Delivery (aka DevOps) and how it can be achieved using the toolset and touch on approaches such as Boost for OpenShift.

The workshop is aimed at Architects, Tech Leads and Developers who want insight into how OpenShift, CodeReady Workspaces and other elements of the stack would work in your own context. We’re using AWS, but the same OpenShift codebase runs on-premise, Azure and GCP. The workshop is led by an experienced OpenShift and DevOps practitioner.

OpenShift brings together:

  • Automated full-stack installation from the container host to application services
  • Seamless Kubernetes Deployment to any cloud or on-premise environment
  • Autoscaling of cloud resources
  • On-click updates for platform, services, and applications.

Your workshop environment consists of several components which have been pre-installed and are ready to use. Depending on which parts of the workshop you’re doing, you will use one or more of:

  • Red Hat OpenShift - You’ll use one or more projects (Kubernetes namespaces) that are your own and are isolated from other workshop students
  • Red Hat CodeReady Workspaces - based on Eclipse Che, it’s a cloud-based, in-browser IDE (similar to IntelliJ IDEA, VSCode, Eclipse IDE). You’ve been provisioned your own personal workspace for use with this workshop. You’ll write, test, and deploy code from here.
  • Red Hat Application Migration Toolkit - You’ll use this to migrate an existing application
  • Red Hat Runtimes - a collection of cloud-native runtimes like Spring Boot, Node.js, and Quarkus
  • Red Hat AMQ Streams - streaming data platform based on Apache Kafka
  • Red Hat SSO - For authentication / authorization - based on Keycloak
  • Other open source projects like Knative (for serverless apps), Jenkins and Tekton (CI/CD pipelines), Prometheus and Grafana (monitoring apps), and more.
